Bayern Munich have been long admirers of Dayot Upamecano. The 20-year-old centre-back is widely considered to be one of the best young defenders in Europe, and all signs indicate that he’s not going to remain at RB Leipzig for a long period of time.

And that’s exactly what Bayern Munich are hoping. According to a report from Bild, the German giants are currently tracking the progress of the defender, and their aim is to complete a move for him during the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old defender, who has been tipped to be a major player in the France national team over the course of the next few years, joined Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg back in 2017. Since then he’s been able to establish himself as the kind of defender who is wise beyond his years, which is always going to attract the attention of a club like Bayern.

Manchester United are also said to be interested, but Bayern have really doubled down on the idea of signing him. If Bayern play their cards right, they could get a deal done in the summer – which appears to be their goal – and they wouldn’t have to depend on what other clubs might do.

It certainly seems Bayern have a clear path to sign the French defender. It all depends on them.
