Done Deal: Gabriel Jesus joins Manchester City in £27m transfer

Manchester City have completed the signing of Gabriel Jesus, 19, in a £27m deal from Palmeiras.

The highly-rated striker could end up costing more with the deal potentially including a further £4m in add-ons and bonuses.

Gabriel Jesus has signed a five-year deal with City but will remain with his Brazilian club until Christmas.

Palmeiras are currently third in the Campeonato Brasiliero Serie A, one point behind leaders Corinthians with 21 games remaining. Gabriel Jesus has scored 19 goals in his 30 appearances for the club this season.

At present, there is no provision for Gabriel Jesus to stay with Palmeiras beyond the end of the season in December although it has been suggested that should the Sao Paulo club qualify for the Copa Libertadores, he may stay for that competition.

Pep Guardiola was determined to sign the starlet and it is believed his personal intervention persuaded the forward to choose the Etihad ahead of Barcelona. The Spaniard circumvented official channels and spoke directly to Gabriel Jesus, a personal touch which has seemingly paid dividends.

Gabriel Jesus is currently with the Brazilian Olympic squad as they seek to win the country’s first men’s football gold medal in Rio de Janeiro this month.
