Manchester United know they have one of the top goalkeepers in the world in David De Gea. However, they also know there are several teams looking to sign the Spain international away from Old Trafford. With that in mind, Manchester United are looking at potential alternatives in case De Gea decides to leave.
According to a report from AS, Manchester United’s top alternative to replace De Gea between the posts would be to Jan Oblak. The Slovenian has settled as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe and, just like De Gea before moving to Old Trafford, he’s also shining at Atletico Madrid.
There’s no question Oblak would be an expensive alternative, however, as Atletico would likely command a nine-figure transfer fee just to consider parting ways with their star goalkeeper. But De Gea won’t be sold for cheap, so United could very well use the money they receive for their current shot-stopper to pry away Oblak from the Wanda Metropolitano.
Oblak, 26, has been left out of the “The Best” award once again, despite the fact he has won the Trofeo Zamora – awarded to the goalkeeper with the least goals conceded per game – in each of the last four seasons in La Liga.
