AS Monaco continue to improve their squad for the upcoming season, and the reigning Ligue 1 champions have added interesting player loaded with potential.

It started as a report, but then it was confirmed officially by both clubs. Les Monegasques have secured the services of Terence Kongolo, a Netherlands international who joins on a five-year contract from Eredivisie champions Feyenoord. The French side reportedly paid €13 million for the 23-year-old, who can either operate as a centre back or as a left back.

Monaco already have Jemerson and Kamil Glik as established central defenders, but there is no question Kongolo should add some decent competition at the back. The defender was a constant presence on Feyenoord’s defensive line, registering 23 Eredivisie appearances in Feyenoord’s title-winning campaign.

I am very pleased to join AS Monaco. I will discover an exciting new challenge at a prestigious and ambitious club,” Kongolo told the team’s official website. “I look forward to meeting the staff, my new team-mates and doing the best on the field to help the group.”

Kongolo’s arrival might be the domino that needed to fall for a potential departure of Benjamin Mendy. Considering both FC Barcelona and Manchester City are keen to sign the French international, Monaco might decide to sell him and establish Kongolo as their starting LB.

Kongolo has won two caps for Netherlands throughout his career, but there is no question the sky is the limit for the defender. And Monaco seems to be the perfect step to improve as a footballer.
