PSG are details away from securing their first signing of the January transfer window. However, fans all over the world will be disappointed if they were waiting for another world-class players.
According to a report from SFR Sport, the Ligue 1 giants are set to finalise a move to sign free agent Lassana Diarra, who is expected to join Paris Saint-Germain immediately. Diarra was playing for Al-Jazira, but asked for his release in order to seal a move back to his home country.
The 32-year-old France international left the Asian club one week ago since he was looking to return to Europe following a disappointing stint overseas, and PSG did not waste time to snap him up. Diarra should bolster the team’s depth in midfield, and is likely to emerge as a viable alternative for Thiago Motta in the holding midfielder role.
Diarra will join PSG on a free transfer, and could be available for the resume of Ligue 1 next week if all the paperwork is submitted quickly. But based on recent reports, both parties quickly reached an agreement and it’s now a matter of time before the former Real Madrid star confirms the move.
Diarra has also played for Olympique Marseille in the past, and is a regular member of the French national team so he has a decent shot of making the squad ahead of the 2018 World Cup. Undoubtedly, this is a great move for PSG who will certainly add depth to their squad with an experienced player for free. It doesn’t get much better than that.
