Marouane Fellaini secured a big payday when he left Manchester United for Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng reports ESPN.

The two clubs agreed on a fee of £10.5m but Fellaini moves to China on a three-year deal worth £12.5m AFTER tax.

Fellaini went with United’s blessing. “Everybody at United thanks Marouane for his service,” the club said, before adding “and wishes him well for the future.”

The Belgian found himself surplus to requirements with the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as interim manager following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal.

Fellaini made 20 appearances this season with all but 9 coming from the bench for United. The final of his 22 goals for the club came against Young Boys Berne in the Champions League in November at Old Trafford.

In all, he made 177 appearances since joining Manchester United in 2013 following David Moyes from Goodison Park. During his time at Old Trafford, he won the FA Cup and EFL Cup, as well as the 2017 Europa League.

Fellaini won 87 caps for his country and was a member of the Belgium squad which finished third at Russia 2018. His final goal came in the desperate 3 – 2 victory over Japan during the group stage. Belgium found themselves 2 – 0 down before coming back to win with the midfielder scoring the equalising goal.
