Mateo Kovacic sensationally rejected a €60m move to Manchester United claims Marca.

The Croatia international already informed Real Madrid of his intention to leave the Bernabeu this summer. However, Kovacic is unwilling to join Manchester United due to Jose Mourinho’s preferred playing style.

Marca claims Kovacic thinks Mourinho’s Manchester United is a “bad stylistic fault”, compounding what has already been a disastrous summer for the Portuguese.

The Red Devils tour of the USA ended on a high with a 2 – 1 win over Real Madrid but was pock-marked with Mourinho’s surliness in his press conferences.

United’s boss complained bitterly about his squad and the absence of first-team players. It sent negative messages to the watching world, with Kovacic’s rejection of the club compounding matters.

New head coach at Real Madrid Julen Lopetgui is unable to give the 24-year-old midfielder any reassurances about getting more playing time without compatriot Luka Modric departing. Casemiro impressed as Los Blancos claimed their third consecutive Champions League title with a 3 – 1 win over Liverpool.

Interest in Kovacic remains from the Premier League. Manchester City are keen to strengthen their midfield after missing out on Jorginho, 25, to Chelsea. The Blues themselves are also monitoring the situation, with the prospect of a move by the London club not ruled out by Maurizio Sarri.
