Manchester City desperately need a new goalkeeper following the injury sustained by Claudio Bravo. Even though Aro Muric has been recalled from his projected loan spell at NAC Breda, The Citizens could certainly use another experienced goalkeeper who can act as Ederson’s backup.
Several names have been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium… and the latest is Keylor Navas. Yes, the Real Madrid goalkeeper and Costa Rica international has been mentioned as a potential alternative to join The Citizens.
It makes sense for both parties, though. For one and as we already mentioned, the Citizens need an established goalkeeper because if Ederson gets forced to miss time, then the other alternatives would be two youngsters such as Muric and Daniel Grimshaw. Plus, Pep Guardiola has been a long-time admirer of Navas. In fact, the Spaniard already wanted to sign him for Bayern Munich back in 2014.
Plus, Navas knows it wouldn’t be the worst thing to look for a new challenge. He will likely become Thibaut Courtois’ backup as the season goes on, and there is no doubt Navas wouldn’t be happy staying on the bench all year long. Real Madrid does not want to let him go, but it is believed that they won’t force him to stay in case he asks for a release.
This is certainly a situation worth watching. Especially since the transfer window closes in roughly one more week.
