Spanish media outlet Don Balon claims Arsenal are ready to rock football this summer with an astonishing £53m bid for Real Madrid midfielder Luca Modric.
The Gunners French coach Arsene Wenger has long been an admirer of the 34-year-old Croatia international, all the way back to his Dinamo Zagreb days.
With Arsenal struggling in the Premier League, Wenger is determined that the final year of his current contract will see a spectacular charge to the top of the table.
It would certainly be a bold move by the north London club who are famed for their cautious approach in the transfer market. At 34, Modric has no resale value and no more than two seasons in the top flight of English football.
Not only that, he made his name on the global stage at White Hart Lane, the home of their bitter north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
With former Barcelona executive Raul Sannelhi at the helm of transfer negotiations, it’s expected the Gunners will be making big moves in the summer as they prepare for the new season.
They face stiff competition for his services. Tottenham are also interested in re-signing Modric, a move he is believed to favour, while Liverpool are keen on the midfielder as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, 26, who joined Barcelona in January.
