Philipp Max, Augsburg’s 24-year-old left back, is being heavily scrutinised by a quartet of Premier League clubs, reports the Mail on Sunday.

An impressive raft of performances has lured scouts to the WWK Arena on a regular basis to check out his form. Despite Max recently extending his contract by four seasons to 2022, he is expected to leave Swabia. The Premier League is the likeliest destination with Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham all vying for his services.

Yet to be capped by the German senior team, Max was a member of the silver medal-winning squad at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. His consistency is such that there is growing groundswell of support for his inclusion in Germany’s Russia 2018 World Cup squad.

Primarily a left-back, he is comfortable playing in a more advanced role which appeals to Everton as they look to replace the ageing Leighton Baines. The 32-year-old is succumbing injuries on a more frequent basis and the Toffees are looking for a younger option on the left-side of defence.

That role has been a thorn in the side of Jose Mourinho at Manchester United. Despite being favourites to sign Tottenham’s Danny Rose, 27, the United boss is in no rush to sign the England international with the availability of Juventus’ Alex Sandro piquing his interest.
