Ajax are widely considered one of the top academies in Europe when it comes to graduating players into the first team. And their latest gem to move up the ranks all the way up to the senior side is no other than midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who could be the subject of a three-way Premier League transfer battle.

According to a report from The Sun, three of the biggest teams in England are quite interested in the young playmaker who has been raking it at Ajax of late. Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea have all been involved in transfer negotiations for the 20-year-old.

In fact, both Arsenal and City “have spoken to Ajax over a January deal,” while Chelsea are keeping a close tab on the situation. Considering the 20-year-old only has 18 months left on his current deal, there are two avenues Ajax could go here. They can either sell him for a bargain price, or try to extend his deal in order to sell him for a bigger fee in the future. But there are no guarantees on whether he will remain as a starter for Ajax in the coming months.

Ajax would be wise to hold on to their talented prospect as long as they can. But if the Premier League giants continue to knock on de Jong’s door, then it wouldn’t be crazy to imagine him playing on English soil sooner than later.
