Chelsea boss Antonio Conte risks the wrath of Serie A’s elite with a move for two of his Italian Euro 2016 squad. With close access to the players, the new Blues boss leaves himself open to accusations of tapping players up with a £57m double swoop for Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci, 29, and Lazio’s Antonio Candreva, 29.
Bonucci has impressed during the tournament with his use of the ball as much as defensive qualities shining through. Manchester United have already expressed an interest in signing the centre back but Conte has the upper hand knowing the player from his time in charge in Turin as well as now with the Azzurri.
Candreva meanwhile, has been in sparkling form for Lazio, scoring 12 goals in 43 appearances last season. He is closing in on his fiftieth goal for the club he joined initially on loan, in 2012. With manager Simone Inzaghi looking to strengthen the Biancocelesti squad this summer, Chelsea’s bid for the winger may provide a welcome boost to his strength in the transfer market.
On his way out of Stamford Bridge is Loic Remy, 29, with Fenerbahce interested in a £7m deal for the former French international. With just three goals last season, Conte has made it clear that the striker does not feature in his plans. Moving to Turkey offers Remy the chance to resurrect his career which stagnated at Stamford Bridge where he was unable to nail down a first team place.
