Ligue 1 reigning champions and UEFA Champions League contenders, PSG, could be forced to sell one of their two top stars due to the FIFA Financial Fair Play Rules. We are talking about Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, as one of these two world-class forwards might be on their way out of Paris towards the 2019/20 season.
The scenario is quite simple. During the upcoming summer transfer window, PSG need to, somehow, earn around €170million in surplus to avoid potential sanctions, as those could include a suspension from next season’s Champions League. And in order to make that happen, Les Parisiens could be forced to sell one of their two star players. And either the Frenchman or the Brazilian appear as alternatives.
Selling Neymar would be easier than selling Mbappe, though, as the Brazilian seems ready to face a new challenge in his career, and Real Madrid have been all over him for the past two years. Meanwhile, parting ways with Mbappe could be more difficult since he’s younger, and could even be more expensive for other teams to buy him.
Real Madrid have been linked with moves for both players, while Barca have also been mentioned as a potential destination for Neymar. We can’t rule out English teams, either, as Manchester City, Liverpool, and even Manchester United could be potential destinations. All of them have enough money to buy at least one of them.
PSG could very well sell other players, such as Angel Di Maria, Edinson Cavani and Julian Draxler, just to name a few. But doing so could hurt the depth of the squad, and that’s something the manager isn’t likely to allow given the upcoming challenges for the squad.
