Adrien Rabiot finally drew a close to his six-year spell at Paris St-Germain by rejecting a new contract offer, according to a Yahoo interview with sporting director Antero Henrique.

The 23-year-old made his intentions over his future public knowledge earlier this year although talks between the club and the player’s agent continued. However, according to Henrique, there are no further discussions to be had; Rabiot is leaving:

“It was a decision made by the club following a meeting I had with the player. The player informed me that he would not sign a contract and that he wanted to leave the club by being free at the end of the season, ie at the end of his contract.”

Rabiot has been strongly linked with a move away from the Parc des Princes for several seasons with Arsenal among the early suitors. However, recently Italian champions Juventus took a keen interest in the France international with a positive response received from the player’s agent.

This time, it’s Liverpool who are in the lead for his services. Jurgen Klopp is keen to strengthen his squad with a title challenge and raised expectations in the Champions League to contend with.

For the remainder of his time in Paris, however, Henrique made it clear Rabiot can expect few first-team opportunities:

“For the player, this will have a very clear consequence: he will remain on the bench for an indefinite period.”

With the January window fast approaching, PSG may be tempted to sell to ease their FFP woes.
