It seems all Barcelona have been doing during the past few months is scouting midfielders. That’s a bit of an odd situation, given the fact the current squad includes Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitic plus new signings such as Arturo Vidal and Arthur. But Los Blaugranas have been linked (once again) with another potential move for a midfielder.
According to Sport, Barcelona’s technical director Ramon Planes travelled to France on Tuesday to watch Lyon defensive midfielder Tanguy Ndombele closely. The 21-year-old player, who has already been compared to N’Golo Kante and has earned a few caps with the France national team, delivered an impressive performance against Manchester City… another team that is reportedly keen to sign him.
Even though Barca have had their eye on him for a while, it would be unfair to call Ndombele as their first-choice alternative, since Barca are also very keen on both Frenkie de Jong and Adrien Rabiot. The French midfielder might be going through the best form of his young career, but it’s unlikely that we will see a deal soon.
By all accounts, it seems Barca are looking for a young midfielder who can anchor their middle of the pitch for both the short-term and long-term scenario, perhaps forming an up-and-coming pairing with Arthur. With that in mind, keeping track of Ndombele certainly fits their criteria.
