Arsenal, stunned by prices quoted for homegrown talent recently, have been warned it won’t be any cheaper to buy foreign players, reports football.london.
The Gunners are monitoring 23-year-old KRC Genk striker http://gty.im/1045676040 , but club boss Philippe Clement isn’t ready to surrender his prize asset cheaply.
Clement told Le Grand Debrief that the striker’s inevitable departure doesn’t leave him “afraid” and it won’t be happening any time soon. “Normally no players leave in January,” he observed. “100 million is something else, but 25 million is not enough for Trossard to leave in January.”
The Premier League giants are reluctant to go higher than £20m with their £40m budget for next season already stretched wafer thin. Welbeck, 27, David Ospina, 29, and Aaron Ramsey, 28, are all expected to leave on free transfers next summer instead of bringing in close to £50m in fees.
The club’s contract mismanagement of the past is coming back to haunt the present.
Trossard is enjoying his best start to a season yet with ten goals in 13 appearances in all competitions. Genk are top of the Juliper League and poised to reach the Europa League knockout phase.
Clement is pleased he persuaded his young striker to stay when he seemed certain to leave last summer. The Limburg club are confident they can be as persuasive once again.
