The Hammers have been scouring Europe for strikers as they seek to strengthen their squad for the coming season. Rebuffed by Michy Batshuayi, 23, who chose to move to Chelsea earlier in the summer, and Lyon over Alexandre Lacazette, 25, Slaven Bilic has turned to the Ghanaian international who scored twelve Premier League goals last season.
The Swans, under new ownership, have been interested in winger Enner Valencia, and may be persuaded to take the West Ham player in part-exchange. The Ecuadorian has made it clear he wants to leave east London this summer and the Hammers are ready to bring him into a £20m deal for Ayew.
Lacazette’s representatives have contacted the Hammers following Arsenal’s interest in the striker but the club’s board refused to be drawn into a bidding war over his services. Leaving the way clear for their north London rivals has left Slaven Bilic struggling to find strikers who will improve his frontline.
Whilst not prolific, Ayew has consistently hit double-figures in the top flights of England and France. Prior to his move to south Wales, he had scored 60 goals for Marseille in five seasons.
