New Sunderland manager David Moyes is preparing a raid on former employers Manchester United, and is targeting Belgian international Marouane Fellaini, 28.
The Black Cats boss brought the Belgian to the Premier League whilst in charge at Everton and wants to be re-united with the midfielder. A fee of £13m is being mentioned as United prepare for the arrival of Paul Pogba, 23, from Juventus in a world-record breaking deal.
Fellaini has failed to impress during his spell at old Trafford and is seen by Moyes as the ideal pivot as he looks to improve on England boss Sam Allardyce’s last season on Wearside. Sunderland narrowly avoided relegation although derived some pleasure from condemning local rivals Newcastle United to the drop.
Fellaini won’t be the only big-name casualty under Jose Mourinho’s reign. The Portuguese has a list of nine players who are to be sold or loaned out as he seeks to work with a core 24 players next season.
German international Bastian Schweinsteiger, 31, has reportedly already been told he is surplus to requirements and his absence from training yesterday is ascribed to his search for a new club.
French champions Paris St. Germain, were rumoured to be interested in the midfielder earlier this summer and with United ready to do business at a cut-price, may revive their pursuit of the player.
Adnan Januzaj, 21, is also a target for Moyes with the youngster’s early promise never materialising at Old Trafford.
