German international defender Mats Hummels, 27, is set to snub Manchester United and sign for champions Bayern Munich this summer.
According to reports in Germany, Hummels is in talks with Bayern over a 5 year deal with the current Bundesliga leaders. Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has gone on record to say talks are under way, and he expects the player to join Bayern at the end of the season.
This news will be a blow to a host of Premier League and European clubs who have tracked the defender. Manchester United in particular had wanted to make Hummels the heart of their new look defence for next season, scouting Hummels several times.
Borussia Dortmund are preparing to have several of their high profile players leave this summer. Following the familiar path of Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski, who both left the club for Bayern Munich.
Dortmund chairman, Hans-Joachim Watzke, has also recently gone on record about the defender “If Hummels leaves it will be to join Bayern Munich”
