beIN Sports reports Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere and coach Lucien Favre confirming that Mario Balotelli will quit the French Riviera this summer.
Neither of the French club’s hierarchy expects him to renew his deal when it expires at the end of the season as the 27-year-old turns his back on the Ligue Un side which reignited his fading career.
After two seasons when he totalled seven goals in 51 appearances for Liverpool and AC Milan, the firecracker Italian found his shooting boots in the Allianz Riviera with 39 goals in 58 appearances, including 22 goals this season.
Having set Ligue Un alight last season, Nice are out of the European places this season and so far adrift that a return to the Europa League is out of the question already.
His agent, the effervescent Mino Raiola, knows Juventus won’t be making a move for his client but hinted that Napoli would be best suited for a player with a troubled history.
It seems almost inconceivable that the San Paolo doors will be flung open to the tempestuous striker, particularly as Maurizio Sarri has one of Europe’s finest strikeforces at his disposal.
However, with the vultures circling and ready to swoop, Balotelli may prove an interesting acquisition to Partenopei.
Roma however, have made their interest clear with coach Eusebio Di Francesco open to Balotelli moving to the Stadio Olimpico.
