Manchester City‘s boss Pep Guardiola does not forget his roots. He has been linked with former FC Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez, but the Chilean is not the only former Blaugrana player that could arrive at Etihad Stadium during the upcoming January transfer window.
According a report from TalkSPORT, Guardiola is reportedly keen to make a move for Sergi Roberto. The versatile defensive midfielder can also operate as a right-back, and Guardiola wants to sign him as soon as the transfer window opens next year.
In fact, Spanish newspaper Don Balon has claimed that City are finally willing to activate Roberto’s £35m release clause. If that happens, all signs would indicate the midfielder would arrive at England quite soon when the window opens in January.
Chelsea have also been linked with the 25-year-old, who made 32 LaLiga appearances last term. His form attracted the attention of both Premier League clubs, but it is unclear whether Ernesto Valverde wants to sell him. Right now, Roberto seems destined for a secondary role at Camp Nou, but his positional flexibility should be enough to warrant him a decent amount of playing time over the course of the campaign.
Roberto has seen time at both RB and DM over the past few years, and made history when he scored the goal that eliminated PSG in the UEFA Champions League last season.
