Arsenal have made their first major signing of the summer transfer window confirming midfielder Granit Xhaka, 23, has joined the club from Borussia Monchengladbach for £35m.

Manager Arsene Wenger has reportedly been tracking the Swiss international for several years and has finally been able to land his man.

He went on to say “We have been watching him for a long time now and he is a player who will add quality to our squad. We wish Granit a good Euro 2016 with Switzerland and look forward to welcoming him to Arsenal ahead of next season.”

Xhaka has been in fine form for Gladbach since joining the club in 2012, attracting interest from around Europe with Juventus and Real Madrid both sending scouts to watch the player.

However it is Arsenal and the lure of playing in the Premier League that has sealed the deal for Xhaka. The player said “I am very happy to be here. It’s a dream come true and I’m happy.”

Xhaka has penned a 5 year contract with the Gunners worth £110,000 per week.
