One of the biggest transfer stories in the Italian Serie A over the past 12 months has been tied to the future of Mauro Icardi. The Inter Milan striker has been heavily linked with a move to Juventus and Real Madrid, but the Argentinian remains with the Neroazzurri side.
Apparently, that scenario is not going to change heading into the 2018-19 season. Since Inter conquered a spot in the UEFA Champions League, they are willing to hold on to the core of the squad, and that includes keeping Icardi around to spearhead the team upfront.
In fact, Inter’s manager Luciano Spalletti said that Icardi is not leaving the club during the transfer window. That makes a lot of sense, as he is widely considered to be one of the top strikers not only in the Serie A, but across Europe’s Top 5 leagues as a whole.
The numbers back Icardi up, there is no question about that. He finished the last season with 29 goals in 34 Serie A appearances, and has netted an impressive tally of 107 goals in 182 appearances for Inter throughout his career across all competitions.
Those performance caught the eye of several top sides, such as Juventus and Real Madrid, who see him as the ideal replacement for both Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema, respectively. Los Blancos admire the Argentinian, but Spalletti has practically blocked the road on any potential transfer so things are going to stay the way they are… at least during the next season.
