Reports emerging for Portugal have Andros Townsend, 24, set for a surprise transfer switch from relegated Newcastle United to Sporting Lisbon for £18m.
Townsend has been given permission and left England’s training camp in order to complete a move to Sporting.
The midfielder only joined Newcastle in January for £12m but was unable to prevent the Magpies relegation. Townsend made it clear from the start he was not prepared to spend a season in the Championship should the club be relegated.
It would appear the move is now a formality, with Townsend set to complete a medical and the two clubs agree a transfer fee.
