One of the most familiar names across transfers enthusiasts this past summer was the one of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Serbian international was heavily linked with a move away from Stadio Olimpico and several teams, such as Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid were linked with a move for him.
In fact, it is believed that Manchester United are leading the race to acquire the 23-year-old, but they might have some unexpected competition. This is because according to several reports out of Spain, La Liga champions Barcelona have joined the chase for the talented playmaker and are reportedly ready to challenge The Red Devils for the Serbian’s signature.
Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also keeping an eye on Milinkovic-Savic, who took central stage in the Serie A last season while featuring for a Lazio side that was only minutes away from booking a Champions League spot. Despite the rumours around him, he ended signing a new deal with the club that will keep him in Rome until 2023.
Now teams aiming to sign him – Barca included – will need to reach deep into their pockets since Lazio are not going to let him go easily. In order to persuade the Serie A side to part ways with their prized asset, teams will have to meet Lazio’s demands of a €150M transfer fee.
