Perennial Italian champions Juventus are testing Liverpool‘s determination to hold onto 23-year-old Emre Can.
The German international is in the final year of his contract and despite Jurgen Klopp claiming that talks over a new deal were positive, the Daily Mail reports that Juventus are readying an offer worth £31m for the midfielder.
Claims from Italy suggest that last season’s losing Champions League finalists have told the player that they will sign him next summer if Liverpool won’t play ball now. That would mean taking a risk on his part although he would be able to talk to Juventus in January 2018.
Contract negotiations are proving difficult with Can. Liverpool opened talks with the player a year ago, according to local newspaper Liverpool Echo, but as yet, no agreement has been reached nor is it likely to be any time soon.
Klopp remains upbeat; “Emre is a very important player for us,” he said. “We don’t want to sell or lose players who are in our first line up or close to it.” It’s a common theme for all but the top two wealthiest clubs in the Premier League. Only Manchester City and Chelsea are safe from having their best players poached.
Liverpool are currently vulnerable with key players coveted by Europe’s elite clubs. As well as Can, Philippe Coutinho, 25, is in demand with Barcelona leading the chase. The Reds are in talks with him over a new deal as well. Klopp does not want to lose either of his influential
