Crystal Palace make fresh £20m Saido Berahino transfer bid

Crystal Palace have tabled a £20m bid for West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino, 22.

Stoke City made a similar bid earlier in the week and the long drawn-out saga over the England starlet’s future looks set to be settled soon.

Berahino will only be allowed to leave the Hawthorns if West Brom can find a replacement. Tony Pulis is interested in Leicester City’s Leonardo Ulloa, 29, although the Argentinean is reportedly happy to stay at the King Power.

It seemed that Berahino was set to join Tottenham Hotspur last summer before West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace pulled the plug on the £23m deal. The knockdown fee this summer reflects the dip in the England international’s form.

The affair unsettled the youngster so much that Tony Pulis felt it better to leave him out of the Albion squad until it was decided and he never recaptured his goalscoring touch of 2014/15.

Palace are desperate for a striker having been beaten by Chelsea to Michy Batshuayi, 22, and frustrated in their attempts to lure Christian Benteke, 25, to Selhurst Park. The goal-shy attack is a concern to Alan Pardew as the Eagles slid down the Premier League table after a promising start.
