Manchester United Target Jordi Alba

Manchester United‘s summer spending is set to continue with Jordi Alba, the Barcelona full back, their next target. According to the Daily Star, the Red Devils face a battle to persuade the Catalans to sell the 28-year-old Spanish international.

New coach Ernesto Valverde believes that Alba is an integral member of the starting line-up with the Spanish media claiming he has doubts about the depth of his squad. Don Balon believes the former Athletic Bilbao was unimpressed with Lucas Digne’s first team displays last year.

Jose Mourinho, however, wants the United board to pull out all the stops in their pursuit of Alba, recognised as one of the best left-backs in world football. With United returning to the Champions League and investing heavily in their squad ahead of a Premier League title challenge, Alba may find playing in English football enticing.

The former Valencia defender was a member of the all-conquering Barca side which made a clean sweep of trophies in 2015, as well as Spain’s 2012 European Championship winning side.

With the money swirling around in the English game and spending £31m on Victor Lindelof, United will be expecting to pay more than that on a highly-decorated player.

That’s if Barcelona want to sell and that seems unlikely without a replacement already on board.
