Napoli have a new manager in town following the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti, who replaced Maurizio Sarri at the helm of one of the best teams in the Serie A over the past few years. And the former AC Milan and Bayern Munich – among others – tactician is already thinking about ways to improve the current squad.
The new boss has already provided the Partenopei side with a list of transfer targets for the upcoming summer transfer window, and the first name that stands out is the one of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, who is widely expected to be the team’s top transfer priority in the coming months.
Perhaps a change of scenery is exactly what Benzema needs. The French striker has been forced to adapt into a secondary role at Los Merengues this season and if the transfer rumours are true, then he’s all but gone looking towards the upcoming campaign.
His numbers do not help him, however, as Benzema has netted just 10 goals in 43 competitive outings for the Santiago Bernabeu side. That’s a sign of a struggling player, but we shouldn’t forget that Benzema is only 30 years old. At least in terms of age, he should be in his prime years, even if his numbers this season do not reflect it.
Benzema and Ancelotti enjoyed a very good relationship at Santiago Bernabeu, and Benzema had some of his best moments in Madrid under the guidance of the Italian manager. Will he manage to bring the Frenchman to San Paolo, giving him a marquee signing looking towards the upcoming season?
