There has been a lot of talk regarding the future of Ivan Rakitic. The cultured playmaker, who is widely considering to be one of the best attacking-minded central midfielders in the world, remains a Barcelona player but there have been rumours around him as if he could leave the Spanish giants in the near future.
Rakitic has been attracting interest from several sides, though. From Manchester United and Bayern Munich to Inter Milan and PSG, there have been lots of top sides potentially being mentioned as Rakitic’s new destination. But the player himself spoke to the media and said those rumours are not true.
“I have three more years on my contract, I want to stay here. I’m full of pride that big clubs ask for me, if they do. I only see myself at Barcelona, it makes me laugh a little when I have my morning coffee,” Rakitic said. Essentially, the Croatia international dispatched any potential rumour about him leaving the club any time soon.
Of course, things might change once the upcoming season rolls around. Sergio Busquets, Arthur and Arturo Vidal are not going anywhere, and Frenkie de Jong will also join the mix starting July. Considering Barcelona only employ three midfielders, there’s a big chance that Rakitic simply won’t have enough minutes in the near future.
And if that happens, there should be plenty of players knocking on Rakitic’s door.
