You might not remember due to his lack of first-team minutes, but Morocco international and former Bayern Munich defender Mehdi Benatia remains at Juventus. However, that could change since the towering centre-back looks set to leave Turin this winter.
Clubs from all over the world – from MLS to China and the United Arab Emirates – are said to be interested in the Moroccan. However, Benatia wants to remain in Europe playing at the highest level. And there are a few teams, especifically from the Premier League, willing to give him that chance.
These two sides are Arsenal and Fulham, two London rivals that are eager to bolster their defensive depth although for very different reasons. While The Gunners are desperate to acquire healthy defenders, The Cottagers could use Benatia’s experience on their quest to avoid relegation in their very first season returning to England’s top-flight.
This is not the first time Arsenal are linked with a move for Benatia, as Manchester United have also been linked with him in the past. But with the 31-year-old feeling out of favour at Turin, Juventus would be willing to discuss a potential deal for the defender.
Benatia, who joined Juventus in 2016 on loan but made his move permanent a year later, has only registered five Serie A appearances this season. There’s no question leaving would be the best alternative for him as things stand right now.
