The left-back who won league titles under George Graham and Arsene Wenger believes two of the Gunners Premier League rivals will lead the chase for the Welshman. Manchester United and Chelsea were both heavily linked with Ramsey in the summer.
Speaking on a tumultuous day at the Emirates, former fan favourite Winterburn believes that while “Ramsey loves the club”, he is prepared to wait and see how this season pans out.
“With a new manager coming in, there’s a lot of uncertainty around the club and I would probably do the same.
“I think Ramsey loves the club, but he is looking around the dressing room and he isn’t convinced this group of players can qualify for major honours in the near future.”
It’s understood 27-year-old Ramsey’s representatives are in regular contact with Arsenal and talks are ongoing and being conducted amicably. Surprisingly, Winterburn believes Ramsey could demand a salary on a par with Mesut Ozil, 29, and “if he is playing well regularly”, he deserves it.
However, speculation began almost immediately Arsenal confirmed the departure of CEO Ivan Gazidis that Ramsey would follow him to AC Milan.
The pair are known to have a close professional relationship and the Wales international made no secret in the past that he would like to play abroad in his career. A free transfer next summer may make him an appealing target for the Rossoneri.
