The Dutch international was rumoured to be one of the players new boss Jose Mourinho wanted to trim from his squad but has so far played both competitive matches in the Portuguese manager’s reign.
It is understood that Mourinho’s initial reservations about Blind stemmed from his 5’11” frame, which is comparatively small for a centre back.
However, with a well-stocked midfield and United looking to bring in Jose Fonte, 32, from Southampton, Blind may yet still be surplus to requirements.
It has put new Inter Milan boss Frank De Boer on alert. Appointed a week ago, the former Dutch international is eager to bring in fresh blood to the Inter squad.
De Boer is known to be a keen admirer of Blind having worked with him at Ajax.
There is doubt in Milan whether United are open to selling Blind at the moment. Chris Smalling’s injury offered him the opportunity to impress Mourinho and he received plaudits for his performance in United’s opening weekend win at Bournemouth.
Inter open their Serie A campaign on Sunday at Chievo and whilst a deal is unlikely to be completed in time for that fixture, De Boer would like Blind to debut in the home match against Palermo the following weekend.
