Granit Xhaka is likely set to leave Arsenal during the January transfer window. And if that’s the case, then there’s already one Premier League side looking to snap him up once the upcoming market opens up.
According to a report from Sky Sports News, Newcastle manager Steve Bruce knows Xhaka will be available during the transfer window, likely on a loan deal. And the veteran tactician hopes The Magpies’ defender Fabian Schar, who is a Swiss international just like Xhaka, can persuade the central midfield to take his talents to St. James’ Park.
Xhaka has been stripped from Arsenal’s first-team captaincy following a confrontation with the Arsenal fanbase, and he hasn’t featured for the first team ever since. Unai Emery doesn’t seem to be willing to re-integrate Xhaka into the first team any time soon.
Xhaka, however, is keeping his options open. He is also drawing interest from the Serie A and while he knows he is set to leave The Gunners, he is keeping his options open moving forward.
Bruce is keen to add a forward and midfielder in January. He knows a loan deal for Xhaka could prove difficult, but Newcastle are willing to do everything they can to land the 27-year-old playmaker.
