Rumour: Tottenham pursue Barcelona striker Cristian Tello

Tottenham are looking to strengthen their forward line further with the signing of Cristian Tello, 24, from Barcelona.

The winger would join Vincent Janssen, 22, in adding depth to the Spurs frontline as Mauricio Pochettino looks to avoid a repeat of last season’s failed title challenge.

Tello has been on loan at Porto and Fiorentina for the past two seasons having failed to break into the Barcelona starting line-up. The Catalan has grown frustrated at the lack of opportunities since moving from city rivals, Espanyol, as a youth player.

The arrival of Neymar, 24, at the Camp Nou three years ago sealed his view that he would not make the grade in the Catalan capital despite making 86 appearances for the first team.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was interested in bringing the winger to Anfield but Tello rejected the move whilst an attempt by Fiorentina to reach an agreement with Barcelona over a permanent deal has also fallen through.

Tottenham are set to become the latest club to try and secure the player’s release. Tello has always chipped in with a goal every four games on average, which suits Pochettino as he seeks to ease the goalscoring pressure on Harry Kane, 22.
