Manchester City are set to win the battle for the signature of Schalke’s German international winger, Leroy Sané, 20.
One of Europe’s hottest properties, the youngster had attracted the attention of the continent’s biggest clubs, including Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Real Madrid. Pep Guardiola, City’s manager, saw Sané’s talents first hand when he was in charge at the Allianz and is ready to sanction a £40m bid.
Sané featured prominently for Schalke last season, scoring 8 times in 33 Bundesliga appearances. He also made his debut for the national team in November 2015 against France in Paris. Since then, he has won another two caps and is currently in the German squad for Euro 2016.
Guardiola has been charged with rebuilding the squad at The Etihad and is linked with a number of young talents. It isn’t an easy job with the Spaniard losing out when compatriot, Aymeric Laporte, 22, opted to stay in Bilbao, signing a new deal with the Basque club yesterday.
City are however, in the driving seat for Sané’s signature with a fee of around £40m needed to take him from Gelsenkirchen to the Premier League. Guardiola hopes to add Everton’s John Stones, 22, on his return from the European Championship as he looks to add a stronger spine to the City team.
