The Daily Mirror reports that Arsène Wenger’s long-standing interest in the Turkish international is to be realised with the 30-year-old determined to leave the Camp Nou after not featuring in Barcelona’s opening eleven games.
New boss Ernesto Valverde challenged his club to sell three players with Turan included in the list alongside Thomas Vermaelen and Paco Alcacer. The latter duo have not hidden their desire to leave and Turan joined his team-mates in doing the same.
Turan previously resisted Arsenal’s overturesm being determined to assert himself in the Catalan’s squad. Having put his career on hold while the club served a transfer ban, he was not prepared to leave as a failure.
With Mesut Özil set to depart in the summer on a free transfer, Wenger is keen to strengthen his squad with proven quality. Turan scored 15 goals in his 55 appearances for the Blaugrana which compares favourably with the 22 he scored in his 178 Atletico Madrid performances.
However, with time running out on his career – the Turk is 31 in January – he needs to find first team football quickly if he is to re-ignite his career.
