FC Barcelona already feature Sergi Roberto and Nelson Semedo for the right-back position, but they could be close to add a third alternative for that position. And we’re talking about one of the most in-form, popular right defenders in the world right now.
According to a report from Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga champions have been offered an opportunity to sign the French World Cup sensation, Benjamin Pavard, who currently plays for Stuttgart in the German Bundesliga. Pavard has risen to become one of the most popular players on that French side following his impressive goal against Argentina.
In fact, the Frenchman received the Goal of the Tournament award for his sublime kick against Argentina, and that made him a household name for casual fans. Following his impressive World Cup displays, Pavard has been linked with some of the top teams in Europe and it was believed that Bayern Munich had “one leg up” on his signing.
However, Barca could very well enter the race to acquire the 22-year-old, too. Pavard will have a €35 million release clause ahead of the 2019 summer transfer market, and Los Blaugranas could easily pay that amount, although the defender will ultimately have to decide where to go if other sides pay that amount, too.
Nothing has been set in stone for now, but there are high chances that both Barcelona and Bayern could end up fighting for the defender’s signature.
