The Foxes have been in talks with the striker’s agent over a possible move and have now contacted his club, Gremio. The Serie A side have quoted a fee of £20m which hasn’t dampened Italian manager Claudio Ranieri’s enthusiasm. Personal terms have been agreed and it remains for the two clubs to conclude negotiations for the deal to be completed.
Leicester have been linked with several forwards this summer and were keen to land Watford captain, Troy Deeney, 27. They walked away from the deal when the Hornets demanded £32m for their talismanic striker.
CSKA Moscow’s Nigerian winger, Ahmed Musa, 23, remains heavily linked with a move to the East Midlands, with the Russian club’s manager all but confirming Musa’s departure recently. A fee of £18m looks good business for the experienced international, whose free-scoring form brought him to Ranieri’s attention.
Having retained Jamie Vardy, 29, despite strong interest from Arsenal, the Foxes are determined to strengthen their squad ahead of their first Champions League campaign. With all their rivals busy in the transfer market, Leicester know they have a tough fight on their hands to not just retain their title but also a top four spot.
