Tottenham’s slow start to this summer’s transfer business may be about to end. Having faded badly towards the end of last season, manager Mauricio Pochettino is looking to add AZ Alkmaar’s prolific striker, Vincent Janssen, 21, to his squad.
The Dutch youngster scored 27 goals lasts season, as AZ finished in the Europa League places in the Eredivisie. Tottenham are expected to pay around £12m, as Pochettino seeks to overturn Arsenal’s dominance of north London football.
With second place in their grasp, Tottenham collapsed in spectacular fashion and their Argentine manager is determined to avoid a repeat of that failure. Such is his desire to avoid a repeat of last seasons collapse, Spurs look to have beaten Atletico Madrid to Janssen’s signature.
Janssen’s arrival would ease the reliance upon Harry Kane with the Dutch youngster sharing the goalscoring duties. Capped five times at senior level, he has represented the Netherlands at every international level from Under-15s upwards.
The Dutchman scored his first goal for his country in the 1 – 2 defeat at Wembley, following that up with goals against Poland and Austria. With the Dutch now rebuilding after a disastrous Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, which saw them miss out on reaching the finals after losing the home and away matches against Iceland and Czech Republic.
