Antonio Conte’s Chelsea revolution is set to continue with a shake-up of his forwards.
Juventus striker, Alvaro Morata, 23, has attracted the attention of some of England’s biggest clubs but with Arsenal set to sign Jamie Vardy, 29, and Manchester City looking elsewhere, The Blues have been given a free run at the Spanish international.
Diego Costa, 27, looks set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer with the former Atletico Madrid striker keen on a return to the Spanish capital.
It was a turbulent season for Costa as his theatrics and mastery of football’s dark arts came under intense scrutiny. He served suspensions for violent conduct after an incident involving Gabriel of Arsenal whilst he received the first red card of his career when he appeared to bite Gareth Barry during Chelsea’s FA Cup defeat at Everton.
The Brazilian fears he has acquired a reputation in England that he won’t be able to shake-off and is looking for a fresh start.
It left Conte with a headache and he has returned to familiar ground for the cure. Whilst not a prolific striker, Morata’s style of play is perfect for the Premier League. Good in the air and with a strong technique honed at the Bernabeu and finished in Turin, Conte is confident the youngster will be a success.
Any deal is complicated by Real Madrid, who inserted a buy-back clause into the contract when they sold Morata to Juventus two years ago. It’s believed that Florentino Perez has his eye on a quick turnaround on the player, with a £15m profit tempting him into a quick sale to Chelsea.
