Manchester United have been one of the most active teams in the transfer market during this summer.
The Red Devils already secured moves for Fred, Diogo Valot and Lee Grant, and are said to be details away from signing Alex Sandro from Juventus. However, Jose Mourinho is not going to stop there. He has two attacking-minded players on his radar as well, and both have been featuring in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
We are talking about Croatia’s striker Mario Mandzukic and Switzerland’s playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri.
Mandzukic’s case is quite odd because one year ago he was an integral part of Juventus. However, the arrivals of Douglas Costa and Federico Bernardeschi forced him to play a secondary role, and that seems to be the case this next season as well. The 32-year-old striker already hinted he could look for a move away from Juventus, and The Red Devils have been mentioned as a likely destination.
Shaqiri’s case is a bit less complicated since he has a £12million release clause on his contract with Stoke City, although those numbers are not official. So far, he has been linked with a move to Liverpool but Mourinho is a great fan of the Swiss. Plus, landing him would allow him to offload Anthony Martial without really weakening the squad.
It remains to be seen whether United can sign either of these players. But the sole fact that they are active on the transfer market is a good sign for Red Devils’ fans all over the world.
