FC Barcelona have not stopped looking for reinforcements in midfield ahead of the January transfer window, and a new name has popped up in the team’s shortlist. This time, it has been repored that Barca are tracking Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks.
According to a report from The Sun, Barca are determined to take a long, hard look at the 21-year-old midfielder, and their aim would be to make a serious, formal bid during next summer after the 2018 World Cup. Winks could play in that tournament representing England, as he already won his first cap with the Senior Team against Lithuania last month.
In fact, the Catalan giants sent scouts to check in on Spurs’ home and away matches against Real Madrid in the Champions League, and Winks was the main target the scouts were analysing. Apparently the reports were positive, and Winks is quickly rising on the team’s targets list.
Winks has even surpassed Christian Eriksen as Barca’s main target for the upcoming transfer window. Many believed Barca were keen on Christian Eriksen, but Winks’ displays were so impressive that the 21-year-old was singled out by sporting director Robert Fernandez.
Signing him won’t be easy, though. Tottenham have reportedly offered Winks a new contract ,and they want to lock him up as soon as possible considering Barca are only one of the many teams that are reportedly looking at Winks.
