Arsenal have lacked a defensive presence in midfield for years. The Gunners have not had a reliable, capable defensive midfielder since the Patrick Vieira days, and names such as Jack Wilshere, Granit Xhaka and Francis Coquelin have not been up to the standard required.

That is why the North London club is willing to sign a defensive midfielder as a top priority during the upcoming transfer window. And one alternative that has emerged as a realistic possibility is no other than Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi.

Ndidi joined the former Premier League champions back in January 2017 from Belgian outfit Genk and he was expected to be N’Golo Kante’s replacement, since the French had departed the club to join Chelsea. But the Nigeria international has performed better than expected and is widely considered as one of the top defensive players in the Premier League.

Arsenal will have competition to sign the 21-year-old, however, as Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City have all been credited with an interest for the 21-year-old. But recent reports have indicated that Arsenal are ahead of the pack when it comes to sign him.

Ndidi has thus far started every game for Leicester City this season, registering 31 appearances but not having scored a single goal yet.
