Borussia Dortmund exercised their option to turn the loan deal for Paco Alcacer into a permanent move reports Reuters.
After moving to the Bundesliga leaders last summer, 25-year-old Alcacer is proving an astute signing with 12 goals in 14 appearances, nine of which came from the bench. It’s prompted the Westfalenstadion outfit to exercise the option to buy. BVB will pay Barcelona €23m with an additional €5m in “variable payments”, plus 5% of any future fee.
Alcacer is second top scorer in German football this season, surprising many observers with his prolific start with Dortmund. When he scored his tenth of the season in the derby with Dusseldorf during December, he set a new Bundesliga record for most goals in a season by a substitute. In one-third of the games, he has already scored more for Dortmund than he did in two seasons with Barcelona.
There are no hard feelings as the Catalans wished him well in an official statement:
“The club would like to publicly express its gratitude to Paco Alcacer for his commitment and dedication and wish him luck and success in the future.”
It’s the Spain international’s most productive season in senior leagues since he turned professional with Valencia. Two more goals and he will equal his highest return of 15 goals in 2015-16 during a five-year spell at the Mestalla.
