Juventus might be forced to add another centre-back to their squad before the transfer market closes on September 2nd due to the injury sustained by Giorgio Chiellini.
The experienced centre-back suffered an ACL injury in training earlier this week and he’s expected to face several months away from the pitch. With that in mind, the reigning Serie A champions must replace him, especially after Andrea Barzagli retired at the end of last season.
According to a report from Sky Sports News, The Old Lady are looking at three players to take Chiellini’s place. These are Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich), Dejan Lovren (Liverpool) and Mehdi Benatia (Al-Duhail).
Benatia would be the best alternative since he already knows the Serie A and previously featured for Juventus before moving to Qatar. However, Lovren could be a decent alternative as well – but it’s unclear whether The Reds are prepared to part ways with the Croatia international.
Last but not least, Boateng would be a solid addition as well. Bayern are looking to offload him, Juventus have been linked with him in the past, and he still has enough quality to play in the Serie A. The fit is clearly there.
If Juventus add a centre-back, it would represent the third central defender that arrives to the side this summer. They already signed Matthis de Ligt from Ajax and Merih Demiral from Sassuolo this summer.
