The Nerazzurri value the Croatian international at €45m but Manchester United, Perisic’s preferred destination, are well short, only willing to pay €30m.
It leaves the 28-year-old in limbo and with a new agent acting on his behalf, is ready to force a move through by requesting a transfer to Old Trafford.
The experienced Croat is well-travelled across European club football. He began his career at Rouen in France, before moving across Belgium and Germany, ending up at Internazionale in 2015. Since then, the attacking midfielder has made 79 appearances with 20 goals.
However, Inter, formerly one of Europe’s biggest clubs, have been in the doldrums since Mourinho left with just the 2011 Coppa Italia to show for their endeavours.
Perisic has made no secret of his frustration at Inter’s repeated failures in both domestic and European competition. United endured a similar lean spell but that lasted only three seasons compared to the Milan club’s six years (and counting).
With Wayne Rooney in the twilight of his career, Perisic would be the ideal replacement for the former England captain. The gap between the two clubs’ valuations may need the Croat to inject some energy into the negotiations.
